This is where Standpipe Siamese began. Outside the Big Apple hostel, just off Time Square in New York City 2004. I was doing a recording of Glenn Branca’s Symphony #13 Hallucination City. The days were very long and the noise levels were intense. We were not getting paid. I liked the way you could walk round Manhattan very late at night and still get something good to eat. I was sharing a room with three other men. One of them was an old guy called Bill and every time I saw him he told me that he had climbed pyramids in Mexico and Egypt. For the whole time I was there I was totally sober but the combination of noise and architecture was overwhelming and I am still hooked. I met John Zorn on this trip. He was a really nice guy. A girl who served me in a coffee bar asked me which part of England I came from and when I said Devon she said that she had been there, but I don’t think she had. The Branca recording got scrapped on the last day because of bleeding in the drum mics.

Standpipe Siamese I + II appeared in limited edition pressings with handmade covers and sprayed discs. They were left in various places to be picked up by anybody. As abstract promotion I accompanied each release with a sticker campaign:
